Responsibilities of the Team Lead Network Engineer: McLane Advanced Technologies is seeking a results-oriented, self-motivated Team Lead Network Engineer to support a Department of Energy (DOE) contract located in Albuquerque, NM. This leadership role requires a highly skilled professional who can manage complex network systems, lead a team of network engineers, and ensure optimal network performance and security.
The Team Lead Network Engineer will:
Lead a team of network engineers, providing guidance, mentorship, and direction.
Manage workload distribution and project assignments, fostering a collaborative and high-performance team environment.
Oversee the deployment, support, and troubleshooting of Cisco routers and Catalyst switches. Develop and refine standard operating procedures for network provisioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
Ensure meticulous documentation of all network changes, including engineering documents, drawings, and IP addressing.
Lead configuration change control initiatives, preparing proposals for the Configuration Control Board (CCB).
Maintain operations in a remotely administered lights-out environment.
Utilize pre-configured equipment and out-of-band management for effective problem resolution.
Develop comprehensive documentation to enhance network operating procedures.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives to streamline network operations.
Implement and oversee network performance testing and monitoring using advanced open-source and commercial tools.
Provide expert-level problem-solving capabilities to troubleshoot connectivity and performance issues across a broad array of network devices and systems.
Act as a primary point of contact for customer interactions, managing communications and expectations with stakeholders at all organizational levels.
Operate autonomously with minimal supervision, taking initiative in all responsibilities. Lead by example in all aspects of network management and troubleshooting.
Available to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, to lead planned and unplanned network maintenance and emergency responses.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Security, or related field.
5-8+ years of experience in supporting complex Gigabit Ethernet switched LAN networks, with in-depth knowledge of network protocols and configurations.
Proven experience as a team leader or supervisory role in the network engineering environment.
Strong understanding of Cisco and Palo Alto networks, experience with network scripting using Python or Ansible, and proficiency in managing heterogeneous network environments.
Expertise in using network diagnostic and performance monitoring tools such as Wireshark, TCP-Dump, or similar.
Certifications in Network Engineering are highly desirable.
