Job Title: Senior Systems Engineer

Responsibilities of the Senior Systems Engineer:
McLane Advance Technologies is seeking a results-oriented, self-motivated Systems Engineer to support both systems engineering tasks as well as day-to-day management of a small IT service desk for a Department of Energy (DOE) contract in Albuquerque, NM.

The Senior Systems Engineer will:

Have strong server experience, networking fundamentals, and storage administration skills as well as the virtualization of those technologies, as it pertains to VMWare vSphere, along with familiarization with hyper-converge infrastructures.
Develop and manage the overall operation of a small IT service desk.
Collaborate with service desk staff and upper management to develop and implement new processes and procedures.
Build and maintain the following systems: RHEL 7, CentOS 7, Windows Server 2012, 2016, 2019, as well as Windows 10.
Understand networking and distributed computing environments.
Partner with application developers as well as server and network engineers.
Be able to create and clone processes across multiple environments.
Support and implement multiple virtualization technologies (i.e., VMWare, Cisco Hyperflex, Hyper-V, etc.) as well as preferred experience in hosted cloud technologies (i.e., AWS, Azure, etc.).
Write policy and system descriptions describing how multiple environments work together.
Work on Networks, Servers, and Storage cores.
Be knowledgeable in Scripting (Python, PowerShell, etc.).
Develop and apply standard configuration templates to all assigned devices, and update inventory and topology records during moves, adds, and changes.
Coordinate with other IT team members to deliver systems and services.
Actively be involved in the development of virtualization roadmap and strategy for the organization.
Review log events and operate network management applications to perform fault detection, identify performance metrics, and generate reports to support specific service level requirements.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, Information Security, or related field.
5+ years performing virtualization in cloud, hybrid, and hosted environments.
5+ years of designing and implementing solutions.
Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and be capable of writing proposals, acting as a vendor liaison, and making presentations to senior management.
Prior experience in a service desk role.
Prior experience managing others on a team.
Active DOE or DOD clearance

Preferred Skills:

VMware VCP
Linux+, RHCSA, or equivalent
Microsoft MCSE
CompTIA Network+
ITIL and/or ITSM related training/certification
Possess excellent problem-solving skills and a solid understanding of how to quickly troubleshoot connectivity and performance issues that involve network and server systems.
Must have proficiency with command-line utilities and familiarity with scripting languages to automate configuration changes, parse log data, generate reports and detect anomalies.
Ability to excel in high-paced, demanding environments where each day provides a new set of challenges under short time constraints involving complex network configurations and/or troubleshooting multiple hosts scattered across a large campus network.
Ability to coordinate multiple open issues and interface with customers at all levels.
Must have strong time management, multi-tasking, organization, and administrative skills and must be highly proficient with Visio, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
