Responsibilities of the Senior SQL DBA EDC Consulting LLC (EDC) is seeking a full-time Senior SQL Database Administrator to support U.S Army IT systems. This role involves maintaining and optimizing SQL Server databases across an enterprise environment of approximately 2000 Windows servers. The successful candidate will leverage their expertise to design, implement, and sustain SQL Server 2019 Microsoft Failover Clusters while standardizing, consolidating, and enhancing existing database infrastructures. This position is ideal for a seasoned professional with a passion for database performance tuning and enterprise-scale database management.
The Senior SQL DBA will:
Design, install, configure, audit, and maintain highly available enterprise database systems to meet organizational needs and security requirements.
Monitor database backups and conduct routine disaster recovery testing scenarios to ensure data integrity and operational continuity.
Proactively monitor and troubleshoot database performance issues.
Develop and implement both short-term fixes and long-term optimization strategies, including regular index maintenance and database integrity checks.
Establish and enforce database policies and standards.
Create and manage database schema definitions and modifications as needed to support application requirements.
Refresh and synchronize data across processing environments as required to ensure data consistency and availability for ongoing operations.
Develop and maintain detailed team documentation for repeatable processes, such as database feature installation, disaster recovery procedures, and problem resolution.
Adhere to ITIL-aligned practices for change management, ticket resolution, and security audit compliance to ensure seamless operations and audit readiness.
Work closely with internal and external stakeholders to gather and analyze requirements for specialized processing. Provide expert technical support and resolution through an in-house ticketing system.
Participate in a 24x7 on-call support rotation to ensure uninterrupted operations and rapid issue resolution in mission-critical environments.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree with 12+ years of related work experience or Master's Degree with 10+ years of related work experience.
Minimum of 3-5 years of hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server Enterprise Edition and comprehensive database administration.
Advanced knowledge and experience with Microsoft SQL Server High Availability features, including Failover Clustering, Log Shipping, Database Mirroring, and AlwaysOn Availability Groups.
Proven experience with Windows Server 2016 and higher and Microsoft Failover Clusters.
Installation and configuration expertise with SQL Server 2019 and higher, including SQL Server Cumulative Updates (CUs).
Strong database performance tuning and optimization skills, including experience with indexing strategies and query optimization.
